Spirituality

The spiritual development of our students is very important to us in Our Lady’s. It informs everything we do. An ethos of prayer, spirituality and Christian service is promoted at all times.

Our school chaplain regularly visits the school and celebrates Mass on a number of occasions throughout the year with the whole school community

- Our Upper Sixth girls meet with the Bishop of Dromore and he celebrates Mass with them before they leave Our Lady’s

- All students have formal Religious Studies classes

- Annual retreats are organised for each year group

- Students engage with a range of organisations to support and assist those who are disadvantaged at home or abroad

As Our Lady’s is a Catholic school, students are encouraged to actively and fully participate in the Religious Education programme and practice of the school. We warmly welcome students from other faith groups and value the richness and breadth which they bring to our school community.

The Oratory
‘Prayer is a plant, the seed of which is sown in the heart of every Christian, but its growth entirely depends on the care we take to nourish it. If neglected, it will die.’ (Catherine McAuley)
The Oratory in Our Lady’s is a place of prayer. It was funded by the Past Pupils Union and its beautiful stain glass windows were designed by Sr Mary Kelly.

As stated in our prospectus, ‘... the spiritual development of our students is very important to us in Our Lady’s and informs everything we do... ’ in keeping with this the Oratory provides a quiet oasis where the students and teachers can go for reflection and prayer.
Throughout the year many class prayer services are held in the oratory. During November, Advent and Lent, services, led by the senior girls, also take place, all helping to foster a strong sense of faith and belief in our students.

‘Meditation... helps us to focus our attention and enables us to be connected to all that happens in our lives and in the World.’ (Catherine McAuley)

The Rosary is said each Wednesday at lunchtime in our beautiful Oratory.
